Teton Bros
From Jackson Hole to the Japanese Alps: Why Teton Bros Doesn't Do Waterproof
Nori Suzuki lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for twenty years. Back in Japan, he founded Teton Bros — outdoor apparel designed specifically for Asia's hot, humid climate.
The Gore-Tex Problem
Most outdoor brands use Gore-Tex for waterproofing. Works great in Europe and North America — low temperature, low humidity. But in Japan, southern China, Southeast Asia — 30°C+, 80%+ humidity — Gore-Tex breathability is far from enough. Nori wore Gore-Tex for twenty years in Jackson Hole; back in Japan, it didn't work. So he chose to skip Gore-Tex entirely and develop proprietary fabrics. Teton Bros' core fabrics — Aqua Breath and Polartec series — are optimized for Asian climates: breathability over waterproofing.
